Journaling is an incredible resource for an array of needs! From reflecting on the day, to celebrating and capturing joyful memories, to processing heavy emotions, journaling is a powerful tool that aids in unlocking stagnant energy.
Here are 5 reasons why you should start journaling today:
Uncertainty: So many of us who struggle with what to say and what not to say. Journaling provides us with an outlet to express our fully imperfect selves. There is no right or wrong way to say things in a journal entry. You can write freely about anything that comes to mind!
Healing: Buzzwords and phrases like inner-child healing, and shadow work? Yeah. Journaling can help! You may not always realize where energy is trapped in your body when it comes to memories or trauma, but when journaling, so much of that energy is released through our fingertips. Shadow work requires us to look at the parts of ourselves that have been buried, or that we would prefer to remain hidden. Through journaling, these aspects of ourselves can be revealed, acknowledged and alchemized for our good.
Clarity: Journaling can help us to organize our thoughts . Sometime sour minds may be racing about a certain issue or dilemma. Journaling can help us to explore and organize our thoughts.
Checking in with yourself: Journaling is a great way to check-in with yourself. Some journals function more like planners and habit trackers, allowing journalers to track sleep quality, set priorities for the day, express gratitude, highlight personal qualities/strengths and more. Finding your style of journal is an excellent way to start and be consistent with the practice.
Self-compassion: Journaling is an excellent way to practice self-compassion. It's a powerful way to forgive, empathize and love parts of yourself you might otherwise suppress. Self-compassion is key to learning to be gentle with ourselves.
No matter what draws you to the practice, you truly can't go wrong. To further support others on this journey, I've created a guided journal comprised of a series of writing prompts to dive deep, acknowledge and accept ourselves fully. Learn more here.
